Welcome to Blair State School Library. Our library has an extensive collection of books to foster a love of reading. At our school, we believe that reading is not only an important skill, it is also important for our health and wellbeing.
10 reasons why Reading is important:
Children who read often and widely get better at it.
Reading exercises our brains.
Reading improves concentration.
Reading teaches children about the world around them.
Reading improves a child's vocabulary and leads to more highly-developed language skills.
Reading helps kids develop empathy.
Reading develops a child’s imagination.
Children who read do better at school.
Reading is a great form of entertainment.
Reading relaxes the body and calms the mind.
The library is open before school from 8.15am and at first break. Students may come in and borrow, read, play games or talk with friends. Each class at Blair also has an allocated borrowing time. Books may be borrowed for up to 2 weeks. It is recommended that students have a borrowing bag to protect the books from accidental spills and damage.
We believe that the more students read, the greater their vocabulary and the better their language skills. The table below shows the benefits of time spent reading.
